Skin Deep.

This has a short life spanAre you getting what you paid for?

IT seems that you are not. We had a gent in the Monday before the start of TT week. He had his Ducatti re-sprayed ready for the trip. Some cracks had appeared in the plastic that the sprayer said had been plastic welded.
mud-gaurd-beforeThe spray job was great but there was a problem with the so called plastic welding.  It was a bit of filler and fiber glass smeared across the back for support hence it had re-cracked, no surprise there!
Just recently another customer was almost suckered by a spray shop saying they could plastic weld. When they started talking about reinforcing the back to stop it cracking further, he decided not to go back because he lost trust in them. He felt they did not know what they were doing.
Plastic welding has been around for a long time. It is recognised by insurance companies as a proper repair meeting their very high standards. It is also part of the NVQ, SNVQ, National diploma, Higher National diploma and Foundation degree for motor vehicle engineering  and yet some repair shops still bodge repairs; there is no call for it; this is part of the reason we do not spray, you can see we have given you the ‘real deal’!
honda_vfr_seat_tabsWe have seen over the years repairs using super glue, rivets with metal support, soldering iron and super glue, filler and fiberglass and wire ties. All valid temporary repairs by the DIYer but have no place in the professional workshop.
If you are paying large amount of money for a repair you should expect the best, it’s not always a good idea to go to a one stop shop; once the paint is on you do not know what you have paid for. It may be a great finish but will it be let down by the foundation crumbling.

Do you do?

Yes we can!

From time to time we are asked, can you repair this or that and in many cases we can, as long as it is a thermo plastic.  We are plastic welding specialists first; who just happen to have a good reputation for repairing motor bike farings. We also “make good”  bumpers .

Some of the other types of repair we have completed:

A repair to a canoe that had been nearly split in two. (and it rhymes)

A close friend  cracked the wing tip of his light aircraft while he was giving it re-spray and overhaul.

A gentleman with a camper van came to us with a badly melted water tank

Some of the more odd ball repairs we have done, a beard trimmer, the wheel housing on a folding push chair, A bucket! yes that’s right!  not just any old bucket, but one from a jet ski; a Dyson vacuüm cleaner hose clip catch.

We have also fabricated things. A large water tray for a photographer; some mud guards for a mountain bike. Some requests  are turned down because it is not practical or cost affective to do.

People have asked if we can adapt/customise farings and bumpers. Yes we can and have done so; adapting a Suzuki GSXR nose cone, so a set of  Honda fox-eye headlights could be fitted.!  A  bumper from a late-model V.W Golf to fit an older one.! The list is long but we don’t want to bore you so that’s it for now!

A long time!

Since setting up this blog I have not had the time to return until now. I am only able to do this now because it is a bank holiday known as Whitson which also ushers in half term for the kids meaning they get a week off. This used to mean that the drive into work was easer and the traffic much lighter. but now it almost makes no difference.

For a down turn year we have seen our work load go up. Why?  People are hanging on to their money?  Yes!  That’s not always  the case, the way they are spending it is a bit more considered, checking out there options before committing to a course of action.

We are getting more enquiries and from that more work, repair is making more sense over new and now in many cases second hand. It is strange that people do not think that when they opt  for a repair that it is good for the environment.  Lets be honest when you have smashed up your pride and joy all you want to do is get it back on the road as quickly and cost affectively as possible, This is where in an increasing number of cases we are coming to the fore.

Are we a green company? Possible.
